OrthoHeal- bridging gaps in Orthopaedic care
OrthoHeal, is a medical-technology start-up based in Gujarat, incubated while we were still in college, in IIT. That is when we had realised the several gaps in orthopaedic care in India which could only be met by providing robust unique health-tech solutions and founded OrthoHeal. OrthoHeal’s mission is to provide standard products with new designs, technology and innovations.
One of the technologies devised at OrthoHeal is FlexiOH, which is an alternate method to Conventional Cast Immobilization and has several advantages over the latter (Plaster of Paris and Glass fiber cast). This novel technology was developed at Sanford India Biodesign under Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. The timely support from the DBT has led us to progress from a stage of ideation to a market-ready product.
FlexiOH is meant for patients suffering from fractures/sprains and are looking for comfortable casts. The FlexiOH is breathable, washable, lightweight cast, unlike conventional casts – plaster of Paris cast, glass fiber cast, etc. FlexiOH not only lends ultimate comfort but is also rigid enough to immobilize bones or joints like conventional casts.
We received the BIRAC-SRISTI Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Award in 2015 which is presented to students for their innovations at Rashtrapati Bhavan every year. Amongst the 1800 participants vying for the award, we were selected in the top category for the same.
OthoHeal has also received several other accolades – Gold Medal for Top 30 Innovative Technology award from DST- Lockheed Martin India Innovation Growth Program 2016 and Commercialization support Award from IC2 Institute , University of Texas USA under DST- Lockheed Martin India Innovation Growth Program 2016 to name a few.
Apart from this when IC2 institute had selected 8 technologies to be supported by their commercialization experts our technology was shortlisted in that category. We have also received the BIRAC- SRISTI GYTI Award of INR-15 lacs for technology development and the Biotechnology Ignition Grant from BIRAC for INR 48.9 lacs for product validation, amongst other feathers in our cap.
