One Year of Change – Assam MyGov

The Government of Assam strives to create effective and transparent administrative machinery where law and order prevails. Adequate steps have been taken to bring about a positive change in the overall socio-economic-political development of the state.  The chief objective of the Government is to make Assam free from corruption, terrorism, illegal immigrants and pollution. It also seeks to increase public participation, improvement of public health system and sanitation facilities, development of the education sector, alleviation of property, generation of new avenues of employment etc.

Socio-Economic-Political Development

In order to bolster the economy of Assam, Government of Assam came up with robust programmes and schemes such as ReSTART Assam, creation of a Land Bank, the Assam Ease of Doing Business Bill, implementation of the recommendations of 7th Assam Pay Commission, development of Sustainable Development Goals etc. Taking a step forward, Assam also became the first State in the country to ratify the GST Constitutional Amendment Bill.

With the aim to curb corruption, all illegal check gates were removed and strict action has been taken in cases relating to corruption in APSC. A new Department named Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship Development Department has been established to further create a roadmap of progress. In the wake of demonetization, bank accounts were opened for 7.86 lakhs workers in tea gardens. To further augment trade and connectivity, 930 Km of roads under PMGSY have been constructed in 2016-17 so far. Various social welfare schemes are also adopted such as formation of women cells, Journalist welfare and pension schemes, provision of vocational education in jails etc.

Boost to Tourism

Giving a huge boost to tourism in the State, Namami Brahmaputra festival was organized for five days at 27 places in 21 Districts. For effective promotion and publicity of Assam Tourism, internationally acclaimed celebrity Priyanka Chopra has been appointed as Brand Ambassador of Assam Tourism’s “Awesome Assam”. Moreover, Majuli has been declared as a Biodiversity heritage site and emphasis is also given on transforming Majuli into the 1st Carbon neutral district of the state.

Development of rural India

Government of Assam believes in enhancing quality of life and economic well-being in rural areas of Assam. Various steps have been taken in this regard by the government such as launch of Chief Minister’s “Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana”, electrification of 1,218 villages in 2016-17, providing low cost sanitary facilities to 10.38 Lakh families in the rural areas of the state which resulted achieving 532 nos of villages as Open Defecation Free, etc.

Protection of Wildlife

Protection and preservation of wildlife also finds prominence among the topmost priorities of Government of Assam. As such eviction was carried out in Kaziranga National Park freeing 750 acres of land. 195 poachers have been arrested so far. Presently, 2436 hectares Forest land of National Parks, Wildlife Sanctuaries and Reserve Forests has been made encroachment free by removing illegal settlers.

Education as a driving force

Education forms the backbone of any State and Government of Assam is working tirelessly to make each and every children of our state educated. It has waived the admission fees/tuition fees etc. for the students taking admission in both Higher Secondary schools and Colleges for the first time. Appointment of 12033 teachers against regular vacancies and 687 on contractual basis was made possible, besides introduction of smart class rooms in 100 nos of secondary schools. Establishment of three more universities and a South-East Asian Study Centre at Gauhati University are also in the pipeline.

Smooth Law & Order

Formation of Nagarik Committee in all Police Stations, online download of FIR within 24- 72 hours of registration in CCTNS police stations by citizens, appointment of 307 ex-serviceman in Border Organization to tackle issues relating to illegal migration, enabled the government in running an effective system of law and order in the State.

Walking towards a digital Assam

With the objective of creating a digitally empowered society in the state, Digital Literacy Program has been rolled out by Government of Assam. Organisation of Digi Dhan Mela, introduction of Data Digitization, initiation of iconic citizen engagement platform, ‘AssamMyGov.in’ are some of its well appreciated endeavours.

Improvement of Public Health

In terms of improving the public health system of the State, Government of Assam declared Cancer Hospital, GMCH as State Cancer Institute and facilitated immunization of 93% infants during 2016-17. Efforts are made to bring a decline in commercial trade in human organs and strengthen the process of organ transplantation for needy patients.

Bringing excellence in Sports

Government of Assam also aims to give the necessary facilities required by sportspersons, while recognizing and appreciating their talents. In a positive development, Guwahati has been selected as one of the venues for FIFA World Cup U-17, 2017 during October.
