Announcing Winners for ‘Coin a Name for National Teacher Platform’ competition

The Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development envisions to build a National Teacher Platform (NTP) to leverage the power of technology to serve ‘Our Teachers, Our Heroes’. It is being envisaged as a digital infrastructure and resource that will be available for use by all teachers, educationists, academicians, administrators, governments, NGOs and others in the field of education across the country. The NTP is being developed for the benefit of Teachers in School, Teacher Educators and Student Teachers in Teacher Education Institutes (TEIs).

Through the National Teacher Platform, MHRD envisions empowerment and capacity building of teachers. MHRD invited ideas for a unique and engaging name for the upcoming tech-savvy teacher training platform.

The best entry would be awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 and two runner-ups would be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 5000 each.

Selection Process

An Information Engagement Committee (IEC) was formed to evaluate the entries on the basis of the following criteria:

  • It should be easy to pronounce and spell
  • It should be in Hindi or English language
  • It should have mass appeal
  • It should be unique and distinctive. It should not be similar to an existing trademarked name
  • It should capture the essence of NTP. Either the name or the full form should relate to Teachers and Tech preferably
  • It should be concise – preferably one word
  • It should have no negative connotations in any language

The IEC has agreed on DIKSHA as the new name for NTP, submitted by Abhishek Katara.
