Language is a major instrument in shaping individuals, society, culture, learning and education, thinking and identity of people. Language learning, as we know, is fundamental to all learning and harmonious development of young children into citizens for a country. Learning many languages in school and in society is common in our country and almost all Indians are multilinguals. This multilingual characteristic of the country is reflected in school education as the school curriculum advocates learning of many languages. National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 advocates multilingualism as the core of school education for its titles its language education section as, Multilingualism and the Power of Language.

Bhasha Sangam is yet another effort of the Government of Indian in moving towards achieving the goal of education as also the vision of the Indian Constitution. The Policy (NEP) 2020, while deliberating on language education in school underscores the need for recognizing and promoting multilingualism as a path to realizing the fundamental aims of education and schooling. The effort to enable our learners learn and use 100 sentences in the 22 languages will go in a long way in promoting language learning and understanding others through schooling. BHASHA UTSAV QUIZ is another initiative in this direction.

 Government of Indian has declared 11th December as Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas  to promote Indian languages in school education and to enable our learners be aware of the importance of mother tongue and our languages. An online BHASHA UTSAV QUIZ on MyGov platform was organized on the occasion of the celebration of the Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas on 11 December 2022 to encourage students, teachers, parents and those interested in languages and language learning to participate and know about India’s linguistics diversity, languages and multilingual characteristics of the country. The quiz was live during 11th December 2022 to 11th January 2023. NCERT is glad to announce that in all 26,006 participants showed their interest in the Bhasha Utsav Quiz  and  received their participation certificate.
