Closure announcement Blog for Shashakt Divyang quiz
With the passage of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act in 2016, the number of legally recognized disabilities have increased from 7 to 21. Prior to the RPwD Act of 2016, the PwD Act of 1985 recognised only seven disabilities, or Divyangtas. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has recently re-emphasized on the importance of inclusive and equitable education for all students with special education needs. According to NEP 2020, special needs may arise due to learners’ belonging to five identities: cultural, socioeconomic disadvantages, difficult geographic terrains, gender and disabilities. Knowing about special needs and their causes may be the first step towards achieving an inclusive and equitable education system envisioned in NEP 2020. True inclusion in education can only be achieved with the participation of all stakeholders, including teachers, parents, students (with and without special needs) and others. The current quiz provides an opportunity for stakeholders to test their knowledge of special needs and become more sensitive to the challenges and be sensitive about disabilities or Divyangta.
In order to propagate the initiatives for inclusive education of Children with Special Needs (CwSN), the Ministry of Education, Government of India, invited participation of Indian citizens in the ‘Shashakt Divyang Quiz’ hosted at MyGov platform. This quiz was launched on 3rd December, 2022 i.e. The UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
We are grateful to announce that 17,441 participants participated and have received participation certificate. In harmony with the spirit of inclusion each participant’s efforts are appreciated and celebrated.
