COTS-ERP Implementation for Jharcraft: A Step Toward Digital Transformation

Jharkhand Silk Textile & Handicraft Development Corporation Ltd. (JHARCRAFT) has embarked on an ambitious journey toward Digitalization and efficiency through the implementation of a Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. This project marks a major milestone in Jharcraft’s digital transformation initiative under the supervision of JAP-IT (Jharkhand Agency for Promotion of Information Technology).

Project Overview

The project, designed with a duration of three years, focuses on automating key business operations within Jharcraft. It aims to bring all its 13 stores across India—including locations in Ranchi, Patratru, Hazaribagh, New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Kharsawan, Dhanbad, and Deoghar—under a single synchronized ERP system.

The Supply, Installation, and Commissioning of COTS Systems and AMC of the ERP System were conceptualized and initiated by JAP-IT in 2024, based on the operational needs and business objectives of Jharcraft.

Core Modules of the ERP System

The COTS ERP solution is being developed to integrate and automate the following four core departments:

  1. Finance and Accounts Management
Streamlines financial transactions, accounting operations, and reporting for improved transparency and accuracy.
  2. Order Management
Enables seamless handling of orders across multiple stores, ensuring better coordination and customer satisfaction.
  3. Manufacturing
Enhances production planning, inventory management, and quality control in handloom and handicraft manufacturing units.
  4. Procurement
Simplifies the purchase process by automating supplier management, purchase orders, and inventory control.

Benefits of the COTS ERP System

The implementation of the COTS ERP is expected to revolutionize Jharcraft’s operations by:

  • Simplifying complex workflows across departments
  • Boosting efficiency and productivity through automation
  • Providing real-time data insights for better decision-making
  • Enhancing coordination between field offices, stores, and headquarters

By adopting this technology, Jharcraft is taking a significant step toward digital governance, transparency, and operational excellence.

 Conclusion

The COTS ERP project for Jharcraft is not just a software implementation — it’s a transformative move that aligns with the Digital Jharkhand vision. Under JAP-IT’s guidance, this system will help Jharcraft strengthen its supply chain, streamline operations, and better serve the artisans and customers who are at the heart of its mission and the state’s development.
