Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) 2024 and the 8th India Mobile Congress at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi today. The Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia; Chairman of the Reliance JIO-INFOCOMM Limited Shri Akash Ambani; Founder and Chairman of Bharti Airtel Shri Sunil Bharti Mittal; Chairman of Aditya Birla Group Shri Kumar Mangalam Birla; Secretary General ITU Ms. Doreen Bogdan Martin and other dignitaries were also present during the event.

India’s Telecom Revolution and 5G Leadership

PM Modi highlighted India’s remarkable achievements in the telecom sector, with a mobile user base of 1.2 billion and 950 million internet users. He also shared that India accounts for 40% of the world’s real-time digital transactions. The country’s rapid adoption of 5G has positioned it as the second-largest 5G market globally, and India is already advancing towards 6G technology.

Empowering Women in Tech and Digital Inclusion

PM Modi emphasized India’s commitment to inclusive technology, spotlighting women-led initiatives like Drone Didi & Bank Sakhi. He praised India’s growing number of women co-founders in startups and women’s representation in STEM education, stating that India is fostering future women tech leaders.

Global Standards and Ethical Digital Growth

The PM called for establishing global frameworks for technology governance, highlighting the need for international collaboration in areas like cybersecurity and ethical AI. PM Modi concluded by stressing the importance of creating a secure, inclusive, and sustainable digital future for all nations.

About ITU-WTSA 2024

This prestigious event is being held in India for the first time, showcasing our country’s growing influence in the global telecommunications landscape. The WTSA is a pivotal conference organized every four years, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, tech experts and about 900 startups from over 120 countries. It will showcase more than 900 technology use case scenarios, host more than 100 sessions and discussion with over 600 global and Indian speakers.

It serves as a platform for discussing and establishing future standards for critical technologies such as 6G, Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, big data, and cybersecurity. The presence of over 3,000 attendees from over 190 countries highlights the importance of this assembly in shaping the future of digital connectivity and digital transformation in India.
