Eliminating Childhood Diarrhoea in Arunachal Pradesh: The STOP Diarrhoea Campaign 2024

The National STOP Diarrhoea Campaign 2024 was launched on June 24, 2024, by Union Health Minister Shri J.P. Nadda, accompanied by Union Ministers of State Smt. Anupriya Patel and Shri Jadhav Patraprao Ganpatrao. The STOP Diarrhoea Campaign aims to achieve zero child deaths due to diarrhoea. This initiative includes a two-month drive featuring the distribution of 2 ORS packets and zinc as a co-packaging to children under five years old.

In Arunachal Pradesh, the Jal Jeevan Mission is spearheading this initiative across various districts. Numerous outreach programs have been conducted in schools and public places throughout the state under the STOP Diarrhoea Campaign. These initiatives include awareness programs, cleanliness drives, and more.

Yingkiong, Upper Siang District

The ‘STOP Diarrhoea Campaign’ at New Millang Government Primary School featured a comprehensive Field Testing Kits (FTK) training session. This was accompanied by an engaging awareness program that highlighted the crucial role of water and sanitation in preventing diarrheal diseases and promoting overall health and well-being.

Khonsa District

The Field Testing Kits (FTK) training and awareness program, focusing on the critical role of water and sanitation in combating diarrhoea, was held at KGGB School. Additionally, the program extended its reach to the villages of Soha, Turet, and Doidam under Khonsa Division. The initiative aimed to educate the local community on the use of FTKs for ensuring safe drinking water and to promote hygiene practices essential for preventing diarrhoeal diseases.

Kra Daadi District

As part of the “STOP Diarrhoea Campaign,” an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) Van traveled through the Palin Division, covering a wide range of villages. The van visited Yapap, Saati, Papey, Kudung, Jorung, Langbia, Jullang, Hinda 1 to 4, Gelotabing, Jirilengneh, Power Grid Area, Sangram, Lumba, Old Palin, SBI Palin Area, and Palin Town. The IEC Van disseminated vital information on the prevention of diarrhoeal diseases, demonstrating the use of ORS and zinc supplements, and emphasizing the importance of water sanitation and hygiene.

Siang District

As part of the “STOP Diarrhoea Campaign,” an awareness program on waterborne diseases was conducted at several schools in the Siang Division. This program aimed to educate students and teachers about the causes and prevention of diarrhoeal diseases. Interactive sessions included presentations on the importance of clean water, proper sanitation practices, and the use of ORS and zinc supplements to treat diarrhoea.

Namsai

Under the “STOP Diarrhoea Campaign,” a comprehensive Cleanliness Drive was conducted at key locations in Parshuram Kund and Kandey villages. This initiative included activities at the Primary School, Anganwadi Centre, and the Water Treatment Plant (WTP). The drive focused on improving hygiene and sanitation practices, essential for preventing diarrhoeal diseases.

The “STOP Diarrhoea Campaign” and the “Safai Apnao, Bimari Bhagao” initiative were collaboratively conducted with the Urban Development (UD) Department in Lemmi. This partnership aimed to enhance community health by addressing both diarrhoeal diseases and overall sanitation.

Jal Jeevan Mission Arunachal is continuing the “STOP Diarrhoea Campaign” in various other locations across the state, to eradicate diarrhoea. These efforts aim to reduce the incidence of diarrhoeal diseases in children especially and improve overall public health in Arunachal Pradesh.
