Smart City Challenge – Moradabad
Moradabad Nagar Nigam has started preparation of its Smart City Proposal for Stage 2 of the Smart City challenge. Moradabad had been selected as one of the 100 cities in Stage 1 of the challenge and will be competing to be in the list of top 20 cities selected in the first year of the challenge. Other cities from Uttar Pradesh to appear among the top 100 are Aligarh, Saharanpur, Bareilly, Jhansi, Kanpur, Allahabad, Lucknow, Varanasi, Ghaziabad, Agra, Rampur.
Winning the Smart City Challenge would provide a significant impetus to the next phase of city development and towards the goal of a Smart Moradabad.
The Cities adjudged to have submitted the best proposals will receive funding under the smart city program in the first year of the challenge while the remaining cities will have the chance to compete again next year.
Moradabad Nagar Nigam has appointed Engineers India Limited (A Govt of India U/T) & JPS Associates to assist in the formulation of its Smart City Proposal. Both the firms have excellent track record. The Team is currently conducting a baseline survey of the city in consultation with various municipal departments.
Considering the citizen inputs to be of vital importance, the Moradabad Nagar Nigam seeks active citizen consultation for formulation of its smart city vision, mission and plan. It has invited suggestions through social media, direct consultations and various forums. Citizens are urged to participate in the process of achieving the vision of a smarter Moradabad by sharing their views and aspirations to become a Smart City. Moradabad Nagar Nigam has also launched competitions such as essay writing “Mere Sapnon ka Shehar Moradabad “ with prizes to be provided to the winning entries.
Also during the course of Citizen Interaction, a questionnaire would be floated to gauge the major issues and citizen suggestions towards a Smart, Sustainable and Self Reliant Moradabad. These would also provide the views of the citizens, their opinions and understanding for potential service improvements.
Further, second round of citizen engagement would be undertaken to focus on Concept Plan creation, co-creating solutions and finalization of City wide Concept plans. Based on citizen inputs, Nagar Nigam Moradabad in consultation with Engineers India Limited Team would devise area-based and pan-city initiatives to be incorporated in the smart city proposal. Specific solutions would be identified and citizen views would be sought in the second round of citizen engagement. Finally, citizen engagement would be held to gather feedback on the unique solutions identified towards making Moradabad a smart city.
