Arunachal Pradesh actively participated in the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2025 campaign, aligning with the national call for cleanliness and community-driven sanitation initiatives. The campaign was observed across the state between 17 September and 2 October, culminating on Gandhi Jayanti with cleanliness drives and public pledges.

Statewide Launch at Itanagar

The campaign was formally launched on 17 September 2025 by Chief Minister Pema Khandu at Indira Gandhi Park, Itanagar. The launch featured a large-scale cleanliness drive and a public pledge, with the Chief Minister highlighting that Swachhata Hi Seva is not just about cleaning surroundings but about building a collective culture of hygiene, sustainability, and civic responsibility.

Some District-Level Initiatives

Lower Siang

In Lower Siang district, the SHS campaign was flagged off in Likabali by Assistant Commissioner Tajum Ronya, in collaboration with the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and Urban Development & Housing. The launch included a cleanliness drive and swachhata pledge with enthusiastic participation from local schools, officials, and residents.

Dibang Valley (Anini)

In Anini, the headquarters of Dibang Valley, the campaign was marked by a pledge and a walkathon to the District Hospital under the theme “Walk for Cleanliness, Walk for Swachh Anini.” The event saw the active involvement of district officials, community leaders, and residents, reinforcing the message of collective action.

Keyi Panyor (Yachuli)

The Mini Secretariat at Yachuli in Keyi Panyor District was recognized as a “Clean Public Space” under the SHS campaign. The recognition was the result of coordinated efforts by the district administration, local communities, and stakeholders in maintaining public hygiene and proper waste management practices.

Lower Subansiri (Ziro)

SHS 2025 was launched in Lower Subansiri at Ziro mini-secretariat under the theme “Swachhotsav”. The event was flagged off by the Deputy Commissioner Oli Perme along with Urban Development & Housing EE Tai Sangkio and other officials. The event included the administration of the swachhata pledge and appeals to local citizens to participate actively in cleanliness drives and public hygiene initiatives.

Tirap (Khonsa)

In Tirap district, the SHS 2025 campaign was launched in Khonsa by Deputy Commissioner Techu Aran under the Swachhotsav theme. The launch included a social service program, swachhata pledge, and distribution of safety gear to sanitation workers. The DC urged citizens to maintain cleanliness, emphasizing that it begins from one’s home (kitchen, toilets, drains). A mass social service event was held at an old petrol pump trijunction, demonstrating the district’s effort to engage public spaces and high-traffic areas in the campaign.

East Siang (Pasighat)

In Pasighat, a SHS-linked cleanliness drive named “Denam A:nam Pasighat Abhiyan / Swachh Pasighat” was launched by Pasighat MLA Tapi Darang, DC Sonalika Jiwani, and PMC councillors. The launch featured a swachhata van being flagged off, Smart Waste Challenge for recycling by local NGO “Green Squad,” and the swachhata pledge. NGOs, SHGs, HoDs, market community, and public joined.

Student and Community Engagement

Student groups also played a vital role in amplifying the message of SHS 2025. At Gandhi Chowk, youth performed skits on hygiene and waste management, while also participating in the Smart Waste Challenge 1.0. Local colleges, including the Social Work Department of APU, conducted village-level outreach programs to spread awareness of hygiene and sustainable waste practices.

Statewide Recognition on Swachh Bharat Diwas

On 2nd October 2025, Governor KT Parnaik presided over the Swachh Bharat Diwas celebrations in Itanagar, felicitating Swachhata Hi Seva awardees for their exemplary contributions. The Governor stressed that cleanliness is both a social responsibility and a patriotic act, urging citizens to carry forward Gandhiji’s vision of Swachh Bharat.

A Statewide People’s Movement

The Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 campaign in Arunachal Pradesh highlighted the power of Jan Bhagidari (people’s participation). From government leaders to school students, from rural sabhas to district headquarters, the campaign became a collective effort to foster cleanliness, sustainability, and civic pride. The recognition of community-led spaces like the Yachuli Mini Secretariat, active student involvement, and district-level mobilization reflect the state’s proactive role in strengthening the Swachh Bharat Mission. As Arunachal Pradesh concluded its SHS 2025 activities on Gandhi Jayanti, the message was clear: cleanliness is not a one-day event, but a way of life.
