Winner announcement for Weather Forecasting – Empowering India since Independence
As India celebrates 79 years of Independence on 15 August 2026, the nation also commemorates the 150-year legacy of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which has evolved from conventional weather observations to advanced forecasting, climate services and multi-hazard early warning systems. With the adoption of satellite technology, Doppler Weather Radars, high-performance computing, AI and advanced forecasting models, IMD continues to strengthen weather services and contribute to disaster management, agriculture and public safety.
To commemorate the spirit of Independence Day 2026 and highlight IMD’s contribution to nation-building, the India Meteorological Department, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, in collaboration with MyGov, organized the quiz contest “Weather Forecasting – Empowering India since Independence.”
The quiz aimed to encourage students and citizens to learn about India’s meteorological heritage, IMD’s journey and its contribution to nation-building. It also covered key aspects of weather and climate, monsoon, disaster early warning systems, scientific achievements and technological advancements in meteorology.
The quiz received an overwhelming response, with 21,741 submissions from participants across the country, reflecting the growing public interest in weather, climate and meteorological services.
