Vigyan Prasar (VP) is a national institute for science and technology established in 1989 under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. It promotes and propagates a scientific and rational outlook in society, nurtures an interest in science, encourages creativity, and develops informed decision-making capacity.

21 June 2020, India got the opportunity to witness the rare celestial event of the Annular Solar Eclipse. In India, the line of annularity was passing from four major northern states viz. Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and a few places from Uttar Pradesh. However, the rest of the country witnessed the partial phase of the eclipse. Due to advisories issued on national lockdown imposed for COVID-19, no in-person camp was organized by Vigyan Prasar to observe ASE on 21st June 2020.

Vigyan Prasar, being committed to the nation for science popularization and bound by the desire to make our people learn the science behind this rare event, conducted a National Campaign on Annular Solar Eclipse through a virtual platform. Many programs were conducted under the National Campaign, like resource material development, live talks on ASE, live hands-on astronomy sessions, Online science quiz on ASE, and live streaming of the eclipse from the central line of annularity, etc.

In this series, to increase awareness about the Solar Eclipses, Vigyan Prasar organized an online quiz competition in collaboration with the MyGov portal from 5th June to 15th June 2020. The quiz was for 2 minutes, during which 20 questions needed to be answered.  This nationwide quiz contest got tremendous response across the country. 54,611 users have participated in the competition. We are happy to announce the top hundred winners, selected based on points scored by them, who will be awarded with VP’s publications.
