The Ministry of Women and Child Development had organized #SunoMaaKiKahaani – A story sharing contest on the occasion of Mothers’ Day through the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao page on MyGov portal. The competition was made live on 8th May 2016 and the last date for submission of entries was 6th June 2016.

The contest was organized to engage with larger audience through sharing of stories about mothers, thereby encouraging inter-generational dialogue, sensitizing men and boys, being a role model for an empowered daughter. This creates opportunities for open conversations against gender discrimination, inequality and dis-empowerment, which in turn leads to a positive mindset change in the society.

The Ministry has received an overwhelming response for this contest. The entries have been screened and shortlisted by a Screening Committee. We are happy to announce the winners for the #SunoMaaKiKahaani contest as per the following details:-

7 I belong to a small village of Orissa. I lost my father at a young age. Only a widow and her children can conjure the life of aftermath.  My mother managed few days by selling pickle, papad. Later she joined a school. Although few argued what is the use of spending money on a girl for higher study rather than getting her married, she was determined to give me a better life than her.  I am the first girl from our community to work as a software engineer for her positive attitude. #MothersDay mygov_146429248183027.pdf Swarnalata Patel
