Krishi Unnati Mela draws to a close with record participation

As the annual three-day Krishi Unnati Mela 2018, Pusa, New Delhi draws to a close with record participation from all corners of the country, it is heartening to see the response from farmers, scientists, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders. In the last three years, the Mela has emerged as an ideal platform for exchange of information and transfer of latest technology in agriculture and allied services. We are more than determined to work for the welfare of farmers & agriculture sector and strengthening rural livelihood.

Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s address on the second day was a barometer of the confidence and trust reposed by farmers in the NDA government. The Prime Minister lauded the efforts of the farmers in ensuring record food grain, daal, fruits, vegetables and milk production. He also laid the foundation stone of 25KVKs, addressed lakhs of farmers through 681 KVKs across the country and launched the Jaivik Kheti portal. The Prime Minister also visited the stalls and theme pavilions, witnessed Live demo on agriculture and allied services like Micro Irrigation, Waste water utilization, Conventional and modern rain fed farming technologies, Vertical farming, Integrated farming, fruit trees, poly houses, protected cultivation, dairying, animal husbandry (Pashudhan) and fisheries, organic farming, farm machinery, drone operation etc. He also conferred the prestigious Krishi Karman Awards to best performing states and progressing farmers and Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Krishi Vigyan Protsahan Puruskar.

Farmers also benefitted from the sale of high quality seeds produced by Pusa and other public and private organizations, sale of farm equipments, bio- fertilizers, agro-chemicals, bio-products etc used for farming. Farmers also gained first-hand experience on technology modules showcased in the Mela and adequate farm literature was also made available. Interactive sessions between farmers and scientists were held on all three days covering a wide range of topics like agro-forestry and bamboo mission, organic farming, soil health, quality inputs and micro-irrigation for crop production etc.

We are moving fast towards realizing the Prime Minister’s vision of doubling farmers’ income by 2022. We have been ensuring that the schemes and initiatives of the government reach the farmers. We have been seamlessly linking Information & Technology with agriculture and in order to establish direct connect between the government and farmers, several websites, portals, apps, SMSes are being used to provide information to farmers at the right time.

In the last four years, the Government schemes like Soil Health Card, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sichai Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna, national agriculture marketing, kisan suvidha mobile app., Rashtriya Gokul Mission, Blue Revolution, Sweet Revolution etc. have had a significant impact on the lives of farmers.
