March 2017 with Transforming India
The month of March has been a special one for Transforming India. It has been a year since the micro-site transformingindia.mygov.in was launched as the one-stop repository for sharing the impact of various governance initiatives. Here is the journey of Transforming India so far….
The month also witnessed some notable and extraordinary steps taken by the Government led by PM Narendra Modi in building a New India. The Maternity Benefits Bill introduced in the Parliament has given women across the work-force many reasons to cheer. In the backdrop of International Women’s Day, the achievement of 100 Open Defecation Free villages also exemplifies how the Government is turning its commitment of women-led development into action. The latter part of the month laid the foundation stones of a new beginning to bring India under a single tax system. 4 important bills related to Goods & Services Tax were approved by the cabinet which were subsequently passed by the Lok Sabha. With the aim of fulfilling the housing dreams of the neo middle class, a comprehensive set of guidelines were laid for the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana. Developments in the health sector have undoubtedly been the highlights of this month with the National Health Policy 2017, HIV Bill and the passing of Mental Healthcare Bill in the last week. The momentous growth in the infra sector is also seen with India becoming a net exporter of electricity for the first time and the progress in Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. Moreover, the launch of India’s longest tunnel, Chenani – Nashri Tunnel, in Jammu & Kashmir exemplifies the Government’s vision of bringing connectivity to all regions with sustainable goals.
