Panaji Smart City Open Forum debate discussed issues related to Mobility, Heritage and Waste Management
Panaji, 15th October 2015: One of the key activities today included an Open Forum panel discussion on three key sectors – Transport & Mobility, Heritage and Waste Management.
Panelists for the debate included MLA of Panaji Sidharth Kuncalienkar, Commissioner, CCP Shri. Sanjit Rodrigues, Shri. Arminio Ribeiro, Urban Planner, Charles Correia Foundation (CCF), Shri. Mikel Oteiza, LKS Consultants from Spain, Jack Sukhija, GHAG and Sachin Ambe, Consultant on waste management.
Shri. Mikel Oteiza, LKS Consultants, who has worked on a comprehensive mobility master-plan plan for Panaji, quoted “Transport is critical to a smart and modern city. Immediate short term solutions to the city’s transport woes are one way roads which can reduce congestion. In the long term though reducing the use of private vehicles in the city and increase of non-motarised means of transport such as cycles, walk-ways and pedestrian roads are a solution.
Citizens vote for mobility and retrofitting at Mala at the Panaji Smart City public debate held by Mayor, MLA and Commissioner
Panaji, 17th October 2015: The public meeting at Institute Menezes Braganza hall in Panaji pulled in views and suggestions of around 200 citizens contributing towards the Panaji smart city challenge.
The public meeting was organized by MLA of Panaji Shri. Sidharth Kuncalienkar and Mayor Shri. Shubham Chodankar. Also present at the discussion was Commissioner of CCP Mr. Sanjit Rodrigues and consultants ICLEI South Asia. Prominent citizens turned up in large numbers to make their voice heard.
In a public vote session held at the meeting the citizens overwhelmingly voted for mobility and retrofitting at Mala.
Public discussions with in SLUM LIKE AREAS with SMART CITY PANAJI MOBILE VAN
City wide Public Discussion along with the SMART CITY MOBILE VAN has been making rounds daily throughout the neighbourhood engaging with the public, creating awareness and noting down suggestions and priorities.
The van has been a mobile mode for public outreach and citizen engagement. Through this mode, we have managed to organize zonal level public consultations from the 16th to the 19th of October 2015.
Smart City Panaji task force members i.e. Ms. Oreena Coutinho & Shri. Ketan Kenkre from GSIDC and Ms. Meesha, Shri. Keshav and Shri. Clive from Iclei consultant conducted a citizen engagement drive on 18th October 2015 in SLUM LIKE AREAS at

- Caranzalem,
- Tonca, Bhatlem,
- Miramar,
- St. Inez,
- Altinho and
- Boca de Vaca.
Press conference on phase 1 REPORT CARD for Panaji Smart City Campaign
~ Round I ends. Vision, smart ideas and priority sectors for development emerge from citizen engagement process
Panaji, 28 October 2015: A press conference was held by Shri. Subhash Nage, Chief General Manager, GSIDC and Shri. Sunandan Tiwari, Dy. Director, ICLEI consultant to raise awareness among the citizens and stakeholders about the progress report of Round 1 and commencement of Round 2
Between 9th and 20th October, through various means, the team has engaged with and received suggestions from over 5000+ unique citizen respondents.
In Stage II, the choices which emerged will be put to vote to the citizens of Panaji.
Citizens discover the different phases of the Panaji Smart City process during one of the ZONAL PUBLIC meeting organized at Ribandar held by MLA PANAJI and ICLEI Deputy Director
Panaji, 28th October 2015: Around 60 people attended the zonal public meeting held in Ribandar, where the different phases of the Panaji Smart City process were explained in detail. The public meeting was facilitated by Shri.Sidharth Kuncalienkar MLA of Panaji and Mr. Sunandan Tiwari, Deputy Director of ICLEI South Asia.
The public meeting commenced by explaining to the citizens the phases and process of the ‘Smart City Challenge’ and initiatives been taken towards stakeholders involvement.
The issue of transportation and parking was emphasized, concluding with suggestions of promoting alternative transport utilizing water ways.
