Green India
All of us dream of Green and Pollution free India. The wish has got the support of our government now that MyGov site MyGov.in has the ‘Green India’ group. Since its launch barely a week back the group has seen more than 48,000 members.
The members hold discussion on two topics –
- Through sound and innovative policies, how can we achieve both development and a clean environment?
- Can only Government mitigate the menace of climate change or is public participation the way ahead?
The members are also actively taking part in the four tasks assigned to them –
- Share 10 global and domestic best practices adopted in order to improve environmental conditions in a particular area.
- Prepare a policy document with ideas and suggestions on how to further promote tourism.
- Share a media album capturing the various shades of any one wildlife park, natural reserve, etc.
- Volunteer at a local eco-centre.
The enthusiasts who want India to be green suggest various ways like opting for the bio gas plants, setting up special audit team for emission check for all vehicles, charging extra money for use of plastic bags and refund of money when the bag is returned, holding regular tree plantation program with the help of local MLAs and MLCs to 100% solar powered street lights in the cities. It was felt by the members that government will have to come up with some way to encourage people to care for the environment and not neglect it.
Many members suggested that if children are taught the importance of conserving natural resources it will help India in long run. One way suggested to teach children was to show them videos of Japanese children practising cleanliness. Many members brought to the notice that students are only taught to practise cleanliness at home and school. They should be taught about the importance of protecting the environment and this should be made part of their curriculum.
Here are few verbatim comments from the Green India supporters:
- Massive mass media campaigning, awareness and Government policies to support more and more towards harnessing the solar power, and a strict environment law to prevent pollution, garbage, throwing waste on roads, spitting on the walls, urinating etc.
- Sewage Treatment Plants are very important to keep our sea waters clean and fresh. In Pondicherry entire waste is going to the Sea by two canals without treatment. Singapore environment policies could be adapted.
- Sir, I think BIO GAS PLANTS are one of the best way in order to keep coordination with the Development and a clean environment as it has number of advantages like electricity generation, Bio methane fuel, manure generation , which will help in solving the problem of power crises especially in rural areas and also it will help the farmers to use natural means for cultivation instead of using fertilizers, which will help in reducing the burden of subsidy from the government and also it is clean too.
- Government must ban all vehicle that are only used for advertisement. This will reduce traffic, fuel consumption, air, sound & light pollution.
- The policies have to basically help the people and environment – Mining in restricted areas – Animal husbandry whereby fodder is obtained at subsidised rates – Even dung used as fuel should be given proper market (Environment friendly), Create demand by promoting products like- Solar panels, windmills, less deforestation – Harness power from ocean waves and rivers (or Hydropower) – All schools should insist that each student should plant a tree, every year a new batch plants.
- Make it mandatory for apartment which has 50+ flats that whole roof should be covered by solar system to generate solar energy. Waste management should be proper and converted to some useful thing in the apartment or in the locality itself.
- Make available cheaper and faster public transport system in the city to discourage use of personal cars.
- Make Rain water harvesting mandatory for every house hold.
- Public participation is must when it comes to making India green but the starting or policy making is made by government. Use MNERGA to encourage commercial and organic planting of trees.

Grow more plants

A person takes more care of things that belongs or is related to him (nature) than things he is not affectionate to.
So, educate all about nature , make them learn about hoe much we owe to our exsistence to Mother Nature .

This should be the main goal as all problems arise from here and all end here.
The thing that happens is when a common man goes to chop down a tree he thinks that plants are infinite atmosphere is infinite.
He fails to understand that each tree he cuts shortens the CO2 sink reduces the O2 tap puts pressure on environment. His action affect everyone around the world as world is finite .So, first educate people about this lonely finite delicate blue dot of life planet EARTH.
Dry land is 60% of India, few options of utilizing it. Solar panel / tree species. There are few tree species like Red Sanders ( India’s native tree – becoming endangered) and Sandle, Vaagai and few more viable. The laws are not conducive / conflicting / changed frequently. Hence farmers does’t venture / keeping away from this species. There should be a simple guidelines " Grow Any Tree, Cut Anytime, Sell / Export to anybody" with simplified online application with GIS detailed proof.
I have suggestion. Why can’t we celebrate June 5th THE WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY by planting trees. We can to insist every individual on planting a tree on the June 5th THE WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY. Like the valentine’s day etc, we have to insist everyone to celebrate the World Environment day by planting trees.It has to be announced as a festival where the government can assist by providing saplings, providing place to plant etc etc. please give it a thinking.

increase the use of bio and organic fertilizer in place of Urea and DAP etc. We need to amend the FCO 1985 accordingly and implement the jun 2009 order of Dept of Fertilizer to make it mandatory for all fertilizer marketing companies to sell 25% bio/ organic fertilizer
while several trees get cut down for roads and highways..the contractors can be given tax benefit or any other benefit for replanting trees on divider/both sides of road once the corridor is completed
1. Law to ensure that companies using disposable plastic material in their products must invest in recycling of plastic. Plastic packaging material, disposable plastics parts etc. must be collected through raddiwalas/pastiwalas and recycled. The onus is on those companies.
2. Make Green initiatives like Composting of green waste, Rain water harvesting, Solar lighting and heating compulsory for residential complexes and societies in all urban areas.
If government ask to farmers to plant 5trees per 2.5 vigha of his land then we can not able to count that much trees are plant during every year, farmers take subsidies, interest free or very low interest loan and many more facilities from government,i not think farmers oppose this, farmers have also big profit from that they secure more moonsoon by more tree, trees give them many benifities which are not countable.
