How Arunachal Pradesh celebrated 75 Years of Azadi
We celebrated our 76th Independence day recently on the 15th of August 2022 since its independence in the year 1947 with much fervour. Arunachal Pradesh also has been celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav through various programs and initiatives throughout the year.

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative
Launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is a government-sponsored celebration and memorial for India’s 75th anniversary of independence as well as the historical past of its people, culture, and accomplishments. Arunachal Pradesh took participation in the mass campaign to celebrate the glorious years of freedom with various awareness rallies, projects, events, and programs, etc.
Throughout the year we witnessed various events organized across the state to commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav by the people for the people.
Let us revisit some of the recent initiatives and celebrations across the state.
Changlang police observed a mini-marathon race under the theme “Run for Drug-Free”. Around 120 personnel from Assam Rifles, CRPF, Civil police and the general public joined the campaign for the noble cause of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
A Mega Block Health Mela was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Health Minister Shri Alo Libang at Rumgong, Siang district. Held as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the camp served to provide citizens of the region with essential medicines and diagnostic services.
A medical camp was organised by a unit of the Gajraj Corps of the Indian Army at Rahung village of West Kameng district under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to provide health care aid to the locals.
As a commemoration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Minister of Youth Affairs Arunachal Pradesh Shri Mama Natung partook in a week-long Surya Namaskar event organized by the Kreeda Bharati Arunachal Pradesh & Arunachal Pradesh Charitable Trust at IG Park Itanagar.
National Health Mission Arunachal Pradesh conducted a health camp service at Sesi Likar village of Kamba circle, West Siang district where people availed much-needed medical assistance.
On May 4th, the District Administration Lower Dibang Valley organised a mega Sarkar Aapke Dwar campaign in Cheta Rekho, Roing. The camp benefited around 769 citizens with free gas connections and issued various certificates, ILPs, and many other services.
The “Ujjwal Bharat, Ujjwal Bhavishya, Power@2047”, a Central Govt. initiative was launched as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and was celebrated at DKCC, Itanagar and across the state.
The Department of Urban Development & Housing conducted a Safai Abhiyan (cleanliness drive) on 12th August at Bomdila led by the DC Shri Karma Leki.
The statue of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled by the HMLA Shri Kamlung Mossang at Bank Tinali, Itanagar, graced by the presence of Mayor IMC Shri Tame Phassang to commemorate the 75th year of independence and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Ujjwala Bharat Ujjwala Bhavishya @Power2047, Bijli Mahotsava was observed by the District Administration on 26th July at the Kanubari, Longding.
Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign
Following the footsteps of PM Narendra Modi Ji to unite the country into uniformity through Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan, Arunachal participated with much zeal. Har Ghar Tiranga is an initiative to bring home the national flag this year and hoist it at every home, office and school etc.
Har Ghar Tiranga function and inauguration was observed at Civil Secretariat, Itanagar, in the presence of Hon’ble CM Shri Pema Khandu Ji and other delegates where the national flag was distributed to the people and encouraged to be hoisted between 13th to 15th August.
A mass rally with a 300ft long Tiranga was organized, under the guidance of the Hon’ble Youth & Sports Minister, Shri Mama Natung at Seppa, East Kameng as a part of the campaign. Several students, ITBP & Police personnel, and administration staff joined the event.
The Indian Armed forces also took the action in participating in the campaign. To support the cause of Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan, awareness campaigns were conducted across the state by the Indo-Tibeto Border Police (ITBP).
A marathon and cycling race was held at Namphai-I, Changlang, to commemorate the launch of the Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan. The event was flagged off by the Hon’ble UD Minister Shri Kamlung Mosang, in the presence of ADC, EAC, EE & other dignitaries.
Mission Amrit Sarovar
The Mission aims to revitalize and rejuvenate water bodies across the country.
Arunachal Pradesh also took an active part in Amrit Sarovar Campaign to celebrate the 75 years of Azadi. The state has a total target of 1875 ponds/water bodies/sarovars to develop under the Mission and aims to achieve the mission on or before 15 August 2023.
On 27th July, a virtual meeting was held by the Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh, Dharmendra with the District Coordinators of the state to review the progress of the Mission Amrit Sarovar.
Tricolours were also flagged in various heights in regions of Arunachal Pradesh as a part of the 75 years of Independent India.
A 104ft national flag is hoisted at Ngangpa Natme (Buddha Park) in Tawang. At an elevation of 10000ft, the monumental national flag, is the second highest in India in terms of altitude.

The Grand Independence Day celebration in Arunachal Pradesh
Last, but not the list, the grand celebration of the 76th Independence Day of India and 75 years of freedom was observed across Arunachal Pradesh followed by Flag hoisting, National Song, Parade, Dance, Drama, Arts etc. and showcasing of the culture, traditional and diversity of the state. As well as inaugurating various projects, programs, and establishments etc.
Glimpses of 15 August 2022 in Arunachal:
Hon’ble Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, (Brig) B.D Mishra hoisted the Tiranga at the Raj Bhawan, Itanagar. On the occasion, his excellency recalled the unsung heroes of the freedom movement and paid tribute to the martyrs who gave their lives for the freedom of our country.
Hon’ble Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Shri Pema Khandu hoisted the National Flag and addressed the crowd at D.N College ground, Itanagar on 15 August 2022 escorted by the DGP, Shri Satish Golcha.
Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Shri Chowna Mein unfurled the national flag on the occasion of the 76th Independence Day at Mini Stadium, Chongkam, Arunachal Pradesh.
As part of the celebration, Hon’ble Chief Minister also successfully launched the first flight of drone service, ‘Medicine from the Sky’ from Seppa to Chayang Tajo in East Kameng district. It will strengthen access to healthcare through drone delivery of medicines in the remotest areas of Arunachal Pradesh.
There were several other celebrations and initiatives across the state with the aim to make our mission and vision of India stronger and safer.
